Wowee! I was so surprised to find this source of free music to listen to on the Internet that I immediately wrote this post to share with you all. Music search engines scour the web looking for music files that people have uploaded to servers. Because they don’t store the music files themselves but instead index these files and allow them to be found, music search engines are somewhat on the fringes of copyright laws. Also, the fact that you can play the music you find, create playlists that you can save and even embed music into websites using an embedded player means that it’s free music heaven for you and me. Here are 3 of the most useful free music search engines for your listening pleasure!

1. SeeqPod

SeeqPod has the best user interface in my opinion. One click on the speaker icon next to the search results adds the song to your playlist and automatically plays it. Also, the exact location of the song on the server is listed underneath the song title. Although it’s not a clickable link, it doesn’t take much imagination to download the actual file on the server. I’m assuming here that you already own the music you want to download. Yah, right …

2. Songza

Songza calls itself an internet jukebox but it’s hard to see how. It has similar options to SeeqPod like playlists, embeddable players but it’s interface is rather cumbersome. One plus feature is that you can rate the recording quality of the songs you find. Poorly rated recordings of the same song will appear lower in it’s search listings. Also, I found some songs in Songza that I could not find in SeeqPod. So, it pays to use several music search engines to find the songs you want.

Don’t Give Up On Microsoft Vista

This is the latest PC / Mac guy ad from Apple. It’s really funny and it makes use of two ad spaces on a page instead of the usual one.

I think my next notebook is gonna be a MacBook. I shudder to think that I’ll have to upgrade to Vista when I buy a new notebook.

How To Stop Losing Clickbank Affiliate Sales In Firefox

Recently, I started promoting a Clickbank product on one of my other sites. After a while, from my stats, I could see lots of traffic going to the affiliate product sales page but strangely no sales at all. I suspected that I was not being credited for sales taking place. When I visited the sales page using Internet Explorer, I could see on the clickbank payment page, [affiliate=myclickbank_id] but when I used the Firefox browser, it showed [affiliate=none ]!

After some research on the net, I came across an article by Kidino who found a solution. To make sure your clickbank affiliate id shows up in Firefox, at the end of your clickbank hoplink, add ‘&type=nohop’. eg

Instead of => http://myclickbank_id.merchant_id.hop.clickbank.net

Use => http://myclickbank_id.merchant_id.hop.clickbank.net/&type=nohop

Many thanks to Kidino for this solution.

How to edit protected PDF files for free

It can be quite frustrating when you want to copy and edit text from a protected PDF file and you find that you can’t. Normally, you can use the text select tool in Adobe PDF reader to highlight and copy the text in a PDF document. I stumbled upon (no pun intended but feel free to click anyway :-) ) this free solution when I wanted to copy some postage rates from a PDF file and found that the protected PDF document didn’t allow me to select any text or numbers. What’s up with that?

pdfedit.jpgAnyway, what I did was to use the Snapshot Tool in Adobe PDF reader (It’s the camera icon), copied the text that I wanted to edit as an image and pasted it into Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Then, here’s the magic part, goto Tools > Recognize text using OCR and hey, presto you have editable text. Simply highlight the OCR’ed text and paste it into any word processor, like Open Office. You can then resave it as a PDF file in Open Office after editing. Easy!
